What is Mechanical Breakdown Insurance / Extended Warranty ?
This is an Insurance Policy designed to protect owners of motor vehicles from costly mechanical, electrical and electronic repairs that are becoming more expensive as modern technology advances.

Do I really need a Mechanical Warranty ?
Can you afford to fork out for hefty bills with the complex technology of today's vehicles, one medium repair can often cost more than the warranty.

How do I purchase and pay for a Mechanical Warranty ?

Can I take a Mechanical Warranty out on an existing vehicle that I own ?
Yes, however only defects after the purchase of the warranty would covered Mechanical Breakdown Insurance New Zealand.

What if I change my mind ?
While we are sure you will be more than happy with your peace of mind cover, should you change your mind, have made no claims and wish to cancel your policy, give us written notice within 15 days of purchase we will happily refund your money in full.

Do all vehicles qualify for a Mechanical Warranty ?
Most vehicles qualify if they have traveled less than 225,000 km's and are under 16 years old when taking out the Mechanical Warranty.
Motor homes/Campervans qualify if they have traveled less than 350,000 km's and are under 16 years old when taking out the Mechanical Warranty. Extended Warranty Insurance Auckland.

Are any vehicles excluded ?
Some vehicles are excluded such as Taxis, Rentals, Couriers, Delivery vehicles and all other fare paying passenger vehicles. Any vehicles with a gross laden weight exceeding 4500kg. Any American manufactured vehicles. Any high performance vehicles such as but not limited to Alpina BMW, Schnitzer BMW, Hamann BMW, Aston Martin, Bently, DodgeVipor, Ferrari, Honda nsx, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Morgan, Maybach, Brabus Mercedes Benz, Volkswagon W8 Passatt, Renntech Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Rolls Royce, TVR, Mitsubishi Evolution, Mitsubishi Legnum Turbo, All Rotary Powered vehicles, All Twin Turbo vehicles, Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover.

What term can I take the Mechanical Warranty for ?
12 and 24 months with unlimited km's cover for that term.

Will I be covered by the Mechanical Warranty when there is an existing defect ?
The policy covers all components listed plus labour for any sudden and unforeseen breakdown to occur after the policy is purchased.

When does the Mechanical Warranty Cover take effect ?
Cover takes effect once the vehicle has traveled 1,000km's and after 30 days from acceptance of your application ie: on receipt of premium payment.

Do I have to pay the repairer and wait for reimbursement ?
No, all claims are settled by us directly with the repairer, you only have to pay the excess.

Do I have to pay an excess ?
There is an excess for each separate claim made, the excess amount will made available to you for your type of vehicle in the online quote system.

What if I need to make a claim ?
In the event of a mechanical breakdown, contact the claims department for your nearest authorized repairer on 0800 Help to U(435 7868) or (09 377 6872). Once the claim has been accepted the repairer will be issued with an authorization number, the fault will be repaired and the invoice (less the excess) will be sent to us to pay.

Where do I have to take the vehicle for repairs ?
We have a network of repairers throughout New Zealand, you are able to take it to the nearest MTA approved repairer closest to you.

What if I have a number of claims ?
There is no limit to the number of claims you can make, there is a maximum total amount payable under the policy being the market value of the vehicle.

How often do I have to service my vehicle ?
To protect your investment you should service and maintain your vehicle on regular basis. To validate your warranty the first service must be carried out before the vehicle has traveled 5,000kms from the purchase date of the policy. There after Petrol vehicles every 15,000kms or 12 months, whichever occurs first and Diesel vehicles every 10,000kms or 12 months, whichever occurs first. Please keep your service invoices as they may be required at time of a claim.

Where do I take my vehicle for servicing ?
you can take your car to any MTA, Midas, Hometune or any other similar registered service centre or agent that is closest to you.

Can I Transfer this policy ?
To assign this Component policy please contact Protecta Insurance, presenting a copy of your service record, in the first instance. Providing the vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the service program and the appropriate fee has been paid, the company agrees to transfer this Component policy to the new owner. Do all vehicles qualify for Auto protect Car Insurance ?
Yes in respect of all vehicles qualify that are under 20 years old, in respect of all motorcycles there is no age entry limit.

How do I purchase Auto protect Car/Motorcycle Insurance ?
You are able to get an obligation free quote, one of the customer services team will phone you and quote you the premium, if you are not able to be contacted by phone they will email you the quote, to purchase the insurance cover simply phone customer services and they will make purchasing easy for you of which you can pay by credit card, internet banking or simply send a cheque.

If I pay my Insurance premium monthly will it cost me more ?
Unlike a lot of other Insurers we do not charge you extra if you pay monthly we simply divide the annual premium by 12.

Do I have to pay an excess ?
Only if the driver of your car is at fault in an accident or if the car is stolen.

What if I need to make a claim ?
Simply phone our claims department on 0800 HELP TO U (0800 4357 868) they will email fax or post a claim form out to you or down load a claim form from our website.

What term can I have my car/motorcycle covered for ?
For as many years as you want we will notify you as your annual renewal comes up 6 weeks prior to the expiry date, of the next annual premium or monthly installment amount.

Do I have to pay an excess in the event of windscreen breakage ?
No this could happen several times in a year there would be no cost to you.

If I am involved in an accident and it is not my fault, do I have to pay an excess and is my no claims bonus affected ?
No there is no excess to pay and your no claims bonus remains the same.

What happens if I have a brand new car and it is written off or stolen how am I compensated ?
We will replace your car with a brand new car if it is under 12 months old when the event happened.

If I already have a no claims bonus with another company does this count ?
Yes we accept what ever no claims bonus you have in place with another company if you were to change over to us.
